Given Mr. Hein’s affiliation with Saint Louis University as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Saint Louis University Pre-Law Program, the Hein Law Firm offers a pre-law academic internship program for students keen on studying and practicing law which welcomes interaction with and the assistance of pre-law students from various top universities at the Firm. The internship program provides the students selected a broad introduction to the bases, sources, and concepts of law, practice management, and life as a lawyer in a law firm, as well as hands-on practical experience in the daily practice of law, including client contact, client file maintenance, docketing, contact with police departments and court personnel, document drafting, drafting skills, attendance at depositions, filing documents in court, preparation for the presentation of cases in court and in-court experience.
Prior interns have prepared drafts of pleadings and discovery; client correspondence; demand packages for insurance companies; have attended jury and bench trials; and have sat in on depositions and client interviews, among other things. Some of our bilingual interns have also assisted in preparing Spanish translations of legal documents, including outlines for classes given at the University of Central America concerning evidentiary foundations, cross-examination and court room objections, as well as drafts of the Spanish translation of the Federal Rules of Evidence and the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. While gaining this practical experience, most students also earn university credits as a result of their internship.
